Real chat

Normally this blog is written in spanish but I wanted to take the chance this time to write something different. As being in Hong Kong and writting my blog in spanish, I guess the success in here is small compared to the people following me from many other countries especially those speaking spanish language.

Yesterday had the chance to meet some people I follow on HK twitter community and it was a great pleasure to enjoy a good dinner and while we talk, though I must say I wasn´t especially talkative as my first time knowing all of them except Fernando that I met him shortly in a coffee time before going for my holidays in Spain. I am a good listener but I promise to participate a bit more during next meeting :) From here I would like to thank all of you: mochachocolata, coffeemeow, spikehk, hypercasey and jasonbonvivant, nice to meet all of you and have a real chat after all these months of following and tweeting each other. I am sure we will have more chances to get together and also welcome more people to join us.

Just to mention that when I was recently back to my home town, I wish I had more time to meet spanish tweetps but unfortunately seems the time passed by so fast and wasn´t able to meet any of them. Hope for next ocassíon I have better schedule and organize an interesting blogger chat as I had last night.

When you think about Hong Kong and realize it has a population over 7 million people, some people may think is so big that you are not able to know everything about the city or the people living in it. Once you are here, you can feel is kind of more small community in some aspects, but maybe because of the western side. I wish my written and spoken chinese (cantonese), though I am able to talk mandarin (not too fluent, but able) would be better to read more local blogs or talk with the people, but I will try to keep improving and get more involved. Also, the social media, blogs not so developed as it should, maybe because the people on top do not know about the reality beneath them and what really people needs or wants.

As I write for pleasure and enjoy sharing my experiences, feelings.. with all my readers, no matter which language they speak, all are welcome. This also makes me think about the language, should I turn into english writting? or maybe make a bilingual blog, mmmm… To money or not to money?

Many questions in the air were left and sure more yet to come. Though internet has helped us to be more connected in many aspects, face to face will not be substituted, yet. This make things more human and close.

  2. Connect in real world with people you know from the net it’s just great.

And looks like you enjoyed the meeting.

About writing in english. I think Google Translator does a very nice job. I mean if you write correctly in Spanish you can easy translate automatically to english.

    Regards.

    1. Sure I did enjoy the meeting, good to hear different points of view of HK blogging community, makes u think in many aspects.

About translation, I am sure Google translator does a good job but sometimes using my habla canaria, not too easy with some expressions, hehe.

      Thanks for the comment ;)

Hey mate. that’s up to you really. Sometimes is more about your feelings, about how to express yourself in another language. From my side, i dont mind if you write in english or spanish. But you should think about if your readers, the ones already following you. Will be able to follow you on another language? Will it cost you to express your thoughts in another language? For a limited time i tried to write a blog in both languages, and it wasnt that simple. Hope it helps

    1. That is the question indeed. How to value which language is more useful to write and the people following you. Let´s take a look to google analytics and learn a bit more user preferences, sure it helps a little :)

      Thanks for sharing the experience.

  4. I agree with enrique131. You should consider if writting in english is going to be a trouble for those who already follow you. Some of us can read and understand english but many may not. It would probably be a good solution to write in both, english and spanish, but that means you should work more… hahaha
It’s great when you meet people you’ve known through internet. I’m also following coffeemeow and jasonbonvivant but I’m afraid it’d be VERY difficult for me to have dinner with them! hahahhahaha

  5. I think it would be best to write the blog in both languages and will be easier to spread out internationally but at the same time make us more pleasant reading for readers of Hispanic countries, we are also a large community.

    A Greeting

    1. Also true about writting in both languages but more work to be done. I wouldn´t mind if I know how to organize my time, it´s an option to be considered as well.

      Thanks ;)

  6. NT

  10. I’m arriving late to the party. My feeling is blog in the language you can express yourself best in. For me that is english in written form, since I did my schooling in Australia. You might increase your traffic by writing in a different language, but, for what it is worth, very little of my traffic comes from Hong Kong.

    —–____—–

    1. Maybe I would have more possibilities if I could write in chinese but not at the moment, need more practice though maybe Google Translator as mentioned before could make a good job but sometimes not too accurate.

As spanish my mother tongue more easy to write in this language though writting in english would be good to improve my writting skills in this language and maybe make the blog reach to more people.

      Gracias por el comentario ;)
