As I made previously, this post is written in English for easier understanding of the people who attended the event. This post has a bit delay but the wait is worth to especially when food is involved, right? As fellow blogger/twitter Razlan spotted a new private kitchen place in town, we asked to some people whether or not we would be interested to organize a dinner to try the place. The response was very successful and we made a full house dinner, though some people joined right in the same day we were holding the dinner, just on time.
First, let´s talk about the place that it´s called «Comilonas«. Spanish word to describe a gathering with friends enjoying talking and plenty of food. This is the concept to have created this restaurant, a place where the people have a good experience and relax with their friends while eating some spanish dishes. The dinner was hold on a thursday night and with 20 people attending. And before I forget, you can bring your own wine and no service charge is applied. So with almost one bottle per person, you can imagine there was plenty of wine to drink.
The menu was introduced to us briefly and as the dishes came one by one, also adding a short description of how it had been cooked and the ingredients used. Also, as you expect from a spanish meal: plenty of bread, same as rice for asian people, bread is basic.
First, introduce the menu we had for that night:
- Romesco dip
- Herb-marinated scallop
- Brandada de Bacalla
- Garlic shrimp
- Piquillo peppers with cheese
- Chorizo with white wine
- Grapefruit & orange avocado salad
- Black ink rice paella
- Caramelized orange with ice cream
After the welcome from Lluis and Carrie, the owners of the place, we just need to wait until the food started to come. Wine served and some bread with the romesco dip makes a good start while chatting and getting to know the new faces. This was also a good chanche to meet in person some of the HK tweet people I had been following for a while and meet again some know ones like Rita, Jason or Virginia.
As I have already introduced before the dishes in the menu, here we have in order some of the pics I took before starting to enjoy the bites. I have to apologize for the low quality pictures but other people bring their toys with them. At the end of the post you can find their blog posts about the dinner 🙂
Who can´t say no to garlic shrimp?
The salad was a perfect break so we can´t get ready for the next big dish.
And between dishes, trying a new way of drinking wine. It´s quite tricky and especially if you have a white shirt, red wine is not the best for it. Just in case, put some napkins and be ready to take a sip from the «porron». It´s all about speed and control of your hand and mouth move, worth to try and good fun. Let the wine rules!
And the queen of the night: the black paella. Well served plate and even chance to have a second one. I enjoyed it so much, I can still remember the taste of the squid ink and the touch of mayonaise.
See the atmosphere, some people sitting while other standing taking pictures. The dinner was not yet over, but I can tell at this time I felt already full, the plates had enough portion to make you not too full. Still room for the dessert, always.
Very satisfying experience and authentic spanish taste. Everything at a reasonable price, 380 HK$ per person and no service charge included + bring your own wine with no corkage fee. You cannot ask for more, really good deal.
